Oh, my friends! Dreams do come true.
Almost a year ago I wrote a post called Globe-trotting, in which I talked about my well-traveled family, and the fact that I’ve never been anywhere outside the United States. At the time my husband was working in Spain, my oldest was planning to spend her junior year of college in England, and my middle daughter was scheduled to go to France as soon as school ended.
What a difference a year makes. This week my husband finishes a six-week-long work assignment in Nairobi, Kenya, and my oldest daughter has spent two terms at Oxford, with one to go. The more things change, the more they stay the same, it seems. Except for one key difference.
Today I leave for England.
I laughed out loud as I typed those words. Is it really my turn? I can hardly believe it.
This evening I will board a plane bound for London, where I’ll join my daughter for a week of touring. Lucky for me, Betsy is a literature major. She just finished studying Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. Lucky for her, I am a Brit Lit geek of long standing. Thus our goals coincide: To take a literary tour of England.
It’s happening. It’s really, really happening.
Stay tuned! I plan to share the experience.
I’m so happy for you, Jane! I can’t wait to hear your stories!
