Prettiest Lake in Kansas

I’ve only been to Wilson Lake twice in my life, but I’m ready to go back. One part of the lake is characterized by red sandstone formations in the water and along the shore. The Rocktown Hiking Trail is a roughly three-mile loop through these natural towers accessible from Lucas Park. Most of the lake is open water, perfect for boating or fishing.

Rather than try to convey its beauty with words, I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy.

To learn more about camping, fishing, and swimming at Wilson Lake, visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks website. My thanks to April Hansen, Donna Hicks, and Daphne Hawkins for the use of their photos in this post.

  1. Thank you. I was fortunate to grow up near the shores of Lake Wilson during grade school and on the shores of this lake all during my high school days. Its home to me and I still am awed by its beauty. Thank you for noticing.
